RE: How slow is unsafe?

Another issue that goes along with this is if you are in very heavy traffic there is no way I would pull off due to the hazard when pulling back on the highway. Highway 65 in Arkansas continually has drivers traveling in excess of the speed limit in very heavy traffic conditions I would never pull off to allow others to pass because I might never be able to access the highway safely again. Thank goodness their is a few pass lanes (not enough) in the 2 lane sections of this highway.

RE: QUOTE FROM PROGRESSIVE $350 W/ROAD SERVICE

RE: How slow is unsafe?

All of us need to keep in mind that the "speed limit" is the maximum legal speed. There is no requirement to drive AT that speed. Some roads (very few) also post a minimum speed. Any vehicle which is accumulating traffic behind them should pull over at the first SAFE opportunity to allow that traffic to pass. I believe that all drivers should drive at a speed which is safe for them but should also allow traffic to pass when possible to do it safely. Ditto ! Wow! I can hardly believe it. People are complaining about someone following the posted speed limits and maintaining their vehicle in a safe manner. Maybe the issue is not the slower traffic it is you who is in such a hurry, if you need to speed to get there then maybe you need to prepare and allow a little more time to drive. Most(including myself) if they half to speed to get to a destination are distracted and not really paying the required attention to the task at hand, driving. Maybe we need to be reminded that it is a speed limit not a goal.

RE: Generator Will Not Start

Circuit boards for Onan units run about $350(bought one last summer) from Onan, can purchase replacement after market unit or Onan used(but not from Onan) for about $100. Description you gave though could be several things including stator(several hundred dollars too) so be sure before you start buying parts as Onan will not take returns(been there). If you can get them to check a board for you go for it, that would at least eliminate one item. The reason they normally shut down is there is a problem with the AC voltage being sensed at the output, so there could be any one of a number of different causes.

RE: More Arizona speed camera's

You can tell who the speeders are by looking at the posts, people do slow down, the speed limit is the max you can travel, not the speed you have to travel Really? I don't speed, ever and am dead set against this type of activities due to all the reasons that have been stated. While I agree almost no one follows speed laws I distinctly believe in the constitution which stated I can face my accuser. I have yet to hear of a an unmaned camera answering a question to its proper operation in a court.

RE: Emergency Roadside Assistance Nightmare

Have had GS ERS for three years. They have responded 3 times to my calls and I have never been disapointed, It is very suspect though to have a brand new member only having two post come on and slam a service with those two post. I'm not disputing the bad service or condoning it, but maybe it needs to be put in context.

RE: USA made generator

Don't know if I would claim that American workers are really all that much better than overseas. I just had to junk diesel Onan generator(<2000 hrs total time) and then was handed a bill of $5000(it originally was over $8k) all due to the incompentance of Onan repair techs that they admitted to. My MH was going to be held in lue of payment. I threatened a law suit and the bill was suddenly reduced to $2300. I due have my MH(though I not them had to put it back together) back now and have replaced the generator with a new Winco generator at less than 1/8th the original cost of repairs.

RE: USA made generator

Winco is a US generator manufacturing company has been around since the 1920's the manufacture generators as well as assemble them from parts from other companies and then sell under their own name. I presently have a unit install in my MH from that has a honda engine matched with Italian generator end that is a tri fuel unit. It is much quieter than the onan diesel that it replaced though it creates more noise than the enclosed RV generators on the market today it is not near as noisy as the contractor generators. Winco

RE: Liquid Gas vs. Propane

Still have the white gas lanterns, both of mine are over 30 years old would not hit the road without them. Propane lanterns are nice but if and when I ever convert it will be to electric lanterns.

RE: The Pickens Plan

I believe the "Picken's Plan" is just a "plan" to make old T. Boon richer and nothing more! Lou While I am sure part of his plan does include the above comment the references to NG usage are correct and very viable. I presently have propane boost system on my RV that allows for a very high boost in power that presently uses propane that could easily be converted to NG if the gas compression systems (not purchasing CNG from gas stations this provides no relief) became more easily available on the open market. The conversion to NG or propane on diesel rigs is fairly easy, the technology/systems have been available for some time. Now the wind systems and solar systems are a joke and need to be thrown away the startup cost and the power generated would just never become viable to overcome each other to make any significant energy production on a large scale. On an individual usage scale it will work but it is still and will continue in the foreseeable future a rather expensive power production system. Hydrocarbons(petroleum, NG, coal the biggest producer and cheapest) and nuclear power are in my opinion the only significant large scale power producers that I see(hydroelectric and geothermal do add some), and using plants to make fuel when people are staving now does not make a lot of sense either. Of course this is just my opinion and when has anyone ever listened to the people making the power.

RE: Why are people against RVing?

Some people need to be put in their place, and she sounds like one of them. Probably jealous, she is just trying to make you feel bad and herself feel in control. Complaining is a form of controling, for the simple minded. There are others that don't like RVing as they would rather go to a condo or high end resort than be outside with the bugs, that I can understand, but it's much more expensive than RVing. You should free yourself from that big mouth, by expressing your freedom and set her straight. I totally agree with this analysis. Recently I was lade off and decided I was tired of fighting the rat race so I would retire and go fulltiming. The response I got from family and friends absolutely incredible, absolutely no one supported it. I was to young(I am 46), kids in college(money already set aside) house not paid for(it's up for sale and we own 2 other properties outright) we did not make enough money(about 3k/month clear), and the list went on and on. It has taken almost a year to convince my wife that this will work and to get her to look forward to it. A big part of it was to show her over this time(though there own actions) that most of the individuals were jealous that we had planned far enough ahead to still be able to do this even with some very significant financial hits we have taken.BE FREE, LIFE IS TO SHORT.

RE: Kids, seat belts, and Class A's. What's your opinion?

Seat belts save lives. BUT Seat belts HAVE killed people, too. Same for air bags. your house, your rules, you don't need permission. good luck. Ditto enough said. Since we are telling stories I will share mine. 25 years ago I received a traffic(I was in the hospital from injuries incurred from falling asleep while driving) ticket from a Highway Patrolman and the first things out of his mouth prior to giving me the ticket(it was not a seat belt ticket and I had not been wearing one)"son this is one of the few instances if you had been wearing a seat belt you would not be here today" bringing the issue of wether it is against the law to wear or not to wear a seat belt I do not think is in question here, just an opinion you if you should remove them to move around the cabin. I do strongly believe though that you have to take responsibility for your own actions and if you decide to remove that seatbelt (of which I do wear) your probability of being injured might be higher. I have yet to hear of anyone being seriously injured do to not being bucked in. Not quite sure why some have to attack because of different opinions, hmmm. Can't we all just get along ! (joke) Have a nice day, sincerly Pat:)

RE: LCD TV Problems?

I have a 26" LCD that I installed last summer with a quick disconnect mount in my MH that allows for quick removal(so I can place it outside or wherever to watch). Works well and allows for solid transport. I bought the quick release mount on ebay new for 17 dollars.
